Join the movement to make random acts of kindness the norm. Here are some very easy ways to make a big difference for everyone around you.

It’s easy to get caught up in everyday life’s hustle and bustle and forget about the little things that matter, such as the small acts of kindness that can put a smile on someone’s dial.

The last few years have thrown a lot at us, and many people are doing it tough. This is why kindness is needed now more than ever.

Just imagine the difference it would make if we all did something as simple as one small random act of kindness a day.

To inspire you to make kindness the norm, here are 25 small yet impactful ways to incorporate random acts of kindness into your daily life:

  1. Check in on an older neighbour to say hi and ask if they need anything
  2. Pay for a stranger’s coffee (don’t tell them and make it a surprise!)
  3. Volunteer your time for a cause
  4. Offer to run errands for a friend in need of a helping hand
  5. Be nice and respectful to the person who serves you
  6. Write a message of gratitude on a post-it note. Leave it on your colleague’s computer screen, so they are greeted by it when they start work the next day
  7. Further to that, write messages on post-it notes and put them in your kids’ lunch boxes for a sweet little surprise at school
  8. Put away your device and take the time to really listen to someone
  9. Wash someone’s car for them (I love it when my husband does this for me 🙂 )
  10. Donate old blankets, sheets or towels to an animal shelter
  11. Prepare a hearty meal for someone
  12. Support local businesses by buying local and shopping local
  13. Smile at people you come across on the street
  14. Spread positivity on the internet by sharing good news, funny memes, inspiring quotes and general joy
  15. Send someone an impromptu text message to tell them you love them
  16. Be polite to other road users
  17. Enjoy a device-less meal with your friends or family at the dinner table. Take the time to really connect with each other
  18. Adopt a rescue animal. We rescued a puppy in 2019, and it changed our life!
  19. Offer to put someone’s trolley away for them
  20. Buy someone a gift just for the hell of it
  21. Once COVID-19 has passed … give free hugs!
  22. Write someone a handwritten letter or make someone a handmade card – send it by snail mail, so they receive it in the post (so old school but so special!)
  23. Make someone breakfast in bed
  24. Check out the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation for year-round tips and inspiration
  25. And lastly, don’t forget to show yourself some kindness.

Did You Know?

Research has proven that kindness is also good for your physical and mental health and the greater community!

Practising kindness can ease your stress levels, help you to live longer, improve your relationships AND build positive and engaged communities.

What more of an incentive do you need?

I’ll leave you with this final thought courtesy of Desmund Tutu:

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
