Mental Health

How is your mental health?

Mental health is just as important as physical health. However, it’s an area many of neglect.

Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, and 260 million suffer from anxiety disorders – many whom live with both conditions.

The thing is, mental health is really important, and by prioritising your mental health EVERY DAY, you can start to make some slow and steady changes.

How is your mental health?

If you’re feeling down, fatigued and stressed, why not reach out and talk to someone about how you are feeling? This could be to a family member, friend, colleague or professional. You could even call an anonymous help line.

If you aren’t ready to talk to anyone, try to write about how you have felt lately. This can help you explore your inner most thoughts and gain a new perspective, or at least get them out of your head.

I see a psychologist regularly to talk about what’s happening in my life.

This includes anything stressing me out, how I’m tracking with my goals, as well as discussing ways I can structure my life to compliment my mental health needs. In 2017, this made a dramatic difference after I spent the first six months of the year struggling with anxiety, panic attacks and a resurgence in my depression. Once I recognised the signs, I got myself back on a mental health plan via my GP, I was referred to an awesome psych, and together we started work on myself. I will continue to work with her throughout 2018 as I know this is something I need to and WILL prioritise.

What do you need, if anything, to help you to feel better – even a little?

It could be some downtime, healthy food, a break from the booze, more exercise or some fun with friends.

Maybe you should take a ‘mental health day’ to get away from the daily grind? Even if it means sitting on the couch or sleeping. It could also be a weekend escape by yourself, with your partner, family or close friends.

And then there’s prioritising me-time, of which I highly recommend.

Oh, and when was the last time you took a holiday? Just checking 🙂

On that note … I’m reminded it’s been a long time since I’ve had a proper break. I might just book a weekend getaway sometime soon.

Much love.
