How will you LIVE this year?

How we live is what makes us real

I hope your year has started well!

As I awoke on New Year’s day sober, relaxed, rested and feeling good, it got me thinking about how I wanted to live the new year… which was exactly how I woke up!

Sober

In 2018 I drank way too much wine. It was a coping mechanism as I sought to combat stress with a relaxing glass or two a few nights a week … or more.

It’s not that I intentionally set out to do this. It was an easy habit to fall into, and then it became a crux. It got to the stage where I NEEDED that glass of wine in the evening to relax.

Little did I realise it was one of the reasons I felt so crappy and couldn’t fit into my clothes anymore. That and the daily morning coffee (with sugar) and comfort eating.

I haven’t touched a drop of wine since 26 December 2018 (and coffee since 17 December), and am endeavouring to save it for special occasions – if that. If I’m honest, at the moment, I don’t miss the booze or coffee, which is a great feeling.

Relaxed

Oh man, is this what it feels like to be relaxed and anxiety-less?

Okay, there’s still a touch of anxiety, as there will always be. But since taking some time off over December and January, I’ve allowed myself to sit back and go with the flow. This has also given me time and space to nurture my self. This has included taking time to read wonderful books, lounge and nap, colour, go on a road trip and pamper my body.

Rested

2018 took it out of me. And so I’ve been listening to my mind and body and resting a lot. Slowly, I feel the energy returning to my body and clarity to my mind.

Feeling good

Feeling good is a good feeling, right?

It’s been a long time since I recognised that feeling. And I like it. Between eating well, drinking more water, abstaining from caffeine and alcohol, sleeping better, spending less time on social media, spending time with those I love and moving, I could get used to this!

How will you live this year? I’d love to hear about your plans and intentions!

Until next time – much love,

Janine
