25 Things to Do When You’re Having a Bad Day

So how do you find motivation when you're feeling down?

*Updated 1 December 2018

Bad days suck!

We all have a bad day every now and again, but it doesn’t make them any easier to deal with! What I find helpful is knowing firstly that the bad days won’t last forever. I also find it important to know HOW to handle them, which is where this list comes into play.

Here’s a swag of ideas to help you de-stress, chill, or even distract yourself from the day at hand. They will also help you to turn your bad day around.

  1. Hug your pet, and if you don’t have one, hug someone else’s pet!
  2. Hang out with some kids doing kid-stuff. Play, colour, dance. Let your hair down and release your inner child
  3. Unplug from social media for the day
  4. Go for a walk in the fresh air
  5. Listen to your favourite music or an uplifting podcast
  6. Binge-watch your favourite series or watch your fave movie
  7. Head to the beach and sit on the sand, watching the waves lap the shoreline whilst allowing the sea breeze to blow those troubles away
  8. Declare a couch / pyjama day
  9. Go for a drive. Turn the music up loud if you like and wind the windows down so you can sing at the top of your lungs while the air whips your hair around
  10. Surround yourself with positive people
  11. Read an uplifting book
  12. Take a long hot shower or run yourself a bath
  13. Treat yourself to a massage
  14. Eat a healthy, nourishing meal
  15. CALL someone you haven’t heard from in ages
  16. Ask someone for a hug – hold the hug for 12 seconds to really experience that heart to heart connection
  17. Make yourself a cup or a pot of tea
  18. Go to the movies. Don’t skip the popcorn!
  19. Take a mental health day
  20. Get artsy – I have a set of good colouring pencils and colouring books I love to sit down with
  21. Pour yourself a glass of wine and sit down to paint your nails your favourite colour. I have a rule though – no alcohol before 12pm unless I’m at high-tea or wake
  22. Go get your hair done, even if it’s just a wash and blow-dry
  23. Have sex
  24. Hang out with your favourite person
  25. Go back to bed, as sometimes your bad day is simply because you didn’t get enough sleep!

I’d love to hear your suggestions to what you do when you’re having a bad day!
